Privacy Policy

1. Who We Are

NewDay is an independent mobile application. For privacy inquiries, contact us at support@trynewday.app.

2. What We Collect — and What We Don't

NewDay works fully offline. An account is optional. Here is exactly what is and is not stored:

We never collect:

• Your real name — a nickname is optional and never required
• Your phone number
• Social login data (no Google, Apple, or Facebook sign-in)
• Location data
• Device identifiers for advertising purposes
• The content of your journal entries — these stay on your device only, always
• The content of your intervention session responses — only timing and trigger category are stored, never what you wrote

If you use the app without an account (anonymous mode):

• All data lives on your device only
• Nothing is sent to any server
• No account is created

If you create an optional account (email only):

• Email address — used solely for account access and recovery. Never shared, never used for marketing without explicit opt-in.
• Recovery progress — your stage, XP, streak data, and start date. Stored securely to enable multi-device sync and protect your progress.
• Onboarding answers — your values and goals from setup, used only to personalize your experience within the app.
• Trigger categories — the category of trigger you select during intervention check-ins (e.g., "stress", "boredom"). Not the content of your responses. Used only to generate personal insights within the app.
• Session timestamps — when you started and completed intervention sessions. Used for pattern analysis within the app only.

3. How We Use Your Data

We use your data only to provide the app's features to you:

• Syncing your progress across devices when you sign in
• Personalizing your daily reframe and intervention session (using trigger patterns and stage data)
• Restoring your progress if you reinstall or switch devices

We do not use your data for advertising. We do not sell your data. We do not share your data with third parties for their own purposes.

4. AI Personalization

NewDay uses the Claude API (provided by Anthropic, PBC) to personalize intervention sessions. When you use the intervention feature and have an API connection available, limited context is sent to Anthropic's API to generate your personalized session content:

• Your current recovery stage and days elapsed
• Your selected trigger categories for the current session
• Your stated values from onboarding (if provided)
• Your onboarding answers about your history and what freedom means to you (if provided)
• Your free-text responses to the first two steps of the current intervention session

Journal entries are never sent to any AI. The content of past intervention sessions is never sent to any AI. This data is processed transiently by Anthropic to generate your response and is not retained by Anthropic for training purposes under their standard API terms.

You can use NewDay's full intervention feature without the Claude API — a complete, non-personalized session is always available offline.

5. Data Storage and Security

Account data (when you create one) is stored on servers provided by Supabase, Inc. Supabase is our data processor. Your data is stored in a dedicated project with row-level security — only you can access your own rows. No Supabase employee or NewDay employee can read your recovery data through normal application access.

Data in transit is encrypted using TLS. Data at rest is encrypted by Supabase's infrastructure.

Journal entries are stored only on your device using your device's local storage. They are never uploaded. They are never read by NewDay's servers or any AI.

6. Data Deletion

You can delete your account and all associated data at any time from within the app: Settings → Privacy & Data → Delete account.

When you delete your account:

• All your data is deleted from Supabase servers within 24 hours
• Your local app data is wiped immediately
• Your email address is removed from our authentication system
• There is no waiting period and no questions asked

If you use the app without an account, you can clear all local data at any time from Settings → Privacy & Data → Delete account.

7. Analytics

We use aggregate, anonymous analytics to understand how the app is being used and where people are struggling in their recovery. This data is never tied to an individual user or account. We do not use behavioral analytics, session recording, or any tracking that could identify you.

8. Push Notifications

If you enable notifications, NewDay sends a daily reminder at the time you choose. Notification content is generated locally on your device. We do not use a third-party push notification service that receives your content.

9. Age Requirement

NewDay is intended for users 18 years of age and older. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has created an account, please contact us at support@trynewday.app and we will delete the account immediately.

10. Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access — request a copy of your data (contact us at support@trynewday.app)
• Deletion — delete your account and all data at any time, directly in the app
• Correction — update your account email or profile at any time
• Portability — data export is available in Settings (coming soon)
• Opt out — you can use NewDay entirely without an account; no data leaves your device

Depending on your jurisdiction (including California under CCPA, and the EU/EEA under GDPR), you may have additional rights. To exercise any of these, contact us at support@trynewday.app.

11. Third-Party Services

NewDay uses the following third-party services:

• Supabase, Inc. — database and authentication provider. Your account data is stored on Supabase infrastructure. Supabase Privacy Policy
• Anthropic, PBC — AI API used for intervention personalization (described in Section 4). Anthropic Privacy Policy

We do not use advertising networks, social media trackers, or analytics SDKs that share your data with third parties.

12. Changes to This Policy

If we make material changes to this privacy policy, we will notify you within the app before the changes take effect. The effective date at the top of this page will always reflect the most recent update. Continued use of the app after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
